City of Eagle River Announces Downtown Alley Reconstruction Project
EAGLE RIVER, WI – August 28, 2026 – The City of Eagle River will begin reconstruction of four alleys and a parking lot within the Downtown Commercial District on August 31, 2026. The project is intended to improve local infrastructure and will result in temporary changes to access, parking, and travel routes throughout portions of downtown.
Construction will occur in phases, with work beginning on two alleys on August 31 and additional alley reconstruction scheduled to begin in late September or early October.
The anticipated construction schedule is as follows:
- Alley between Wall and Pine Streets, next to Nicolet Bank: Earthwork will begin August 31, with paving anticipated in late September or early October. The alley will remain gravel for approximately one month during construction.
- Alley between Wall and Pine Streets, next to BMO Harris Bank: Earthwork will begin August 31, with paving anticipated in late September or early October. The alley will remain gravel for approximately one month during construction.
- Parking lot adjoining BMO Harris alley: Pulverizing and grading of the surface to begin August 31, with final chipsealing in Spring 2027.
- Alley between Railroad and Main Streets, south of Wall Street: Construction is anticipated to begin in late September or early October.
- Alley between Main and First Streets, south of Wall Street: Construction is anticipated to begin in late September or early October.
Temporary Access Restrictions and Detours
Residents, businesses, and visitors should expect temporary restrictions on access to the alleys throughout the project. Parking and deliveries within the affected alleys may be limited or unavailable while construction is underway.
Detours and temporary changes to traffic routes can also be expected during September and October as construction progresses. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution around construction areas, follow posted detour and closure signs, and allow additional time when traveling through the downtown area.
Businesses and property owners in the affected areas are encouraged to make alternative arrangements for deliveries, parking, dumpsters, and garbage collection as necessary. Property owners have been asked to remove personal property from the alleys before construction begins.
The City recognizes that construction in the Downtown Commercial District may create temporary inconvenience for businesses, residents, and visitors. The City appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while this infrastructure improvement project is completed.
Construction schedules are estimates and may be adjusted due to weather, site conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances. Updates will be posted on the City’s website as they become available.
